Sometimes even a well-planned catch brings a surprise.

A supplier shipment of our freeze-dried fish included a limited quantity of compressed freeze-dried Whitefish preserved with mixed tocopherols. We discovered the variation after producing batches of PetMix Fish Dinner and Homestyle PetMix with Fish.

Mixed tocopherols are commonly used to help protect quality and freshness, a natural perservaive. These ingredients are suitable for feeding, but they are not part of our standard recipe as normally produced. Because these batches differ from what our customers usually receive, we are labeling them separately and offering them at a special price.

What Makes This Batch Different?

The affected batches contain a combination of our usual fish ingredients and freeze-dried WhiteFish preserved with mixed tocopherols. Each package includes an updated ingredient label identifying this recipe variation.

The WhtieFish was compressed before freeze-drying, so its shape and texture may differ from the loose pieces of fish normally found in our PetMix. Some packages may contain firm pieces or puck-shaped portions.

If you find a puck, simply crumble it into smaller pieces, mix it back into the PetMix and prepare the food according to the package directions.

Why Is It Discounted?

The reduced price reflects the unexpected recipe and appearance variation. It is not a discount for damaged packaging, expired ingredients or short-dated product.

The food was made using our normal production process, but because the recipe does not match our established product exactly, we did not feel it should be sold as a standard batch at the standard price.

We believe transparency matters. Instead of allowing a perfectly usable batch to go to waste, we are giving customers the opportunity to purchase it at a meaningful discount with a clear explanation of what makes it different.

Preparation

If you encounter a compressed puck, crumble it into smaller pieces and mix it back into the PetMix. Add warm water and prepare according to the directions printed on the package.
